Advent Wk 1: Sunday 1st December, 2019 December 1, 2019

Reflection on the WORD

Advent Preparation: As we begin our Advent season of preparation for the Birth of Jesus at Christmas, let us thank God for the opportunities to reflect on our faith more deeply.  Let us also ask God for the graces to be more fully disposed towards loving God and our neighbours more attentively.

Matthew 24:37, 39, 42-44

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As it was in Noah's day, so will it be when the Son of man comes. They suspected nothing till the Flood came and swept them all away. This is what it will be like when the Son of man comes.

‘So stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time of the night the burglar would come, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed anyone to break through the wall of his house. Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus cautions us strongly to “Say awake” and be vigilant in living out of our faith daily as the end of the world can come at any time.
  • Many people allow their daily work, family, friends, hobbies etc. to consume their time and energy that they are no longer available for God. At most they give their left-over time to Him.
  • Are you ready to meet Godtoday if He calls you to leave this earthly life? Can you picture the scene of you standing before Him? How will you present yourself? What do you expect God to say to you?
