Reflection on the WORD
Ash Wednesday: In today’s celebration that begins our Lenten season, let us search our hearts deeply and allow the Holy Spirit to give us the wisdom and humility to put Jesus more fully at the center of our daily living. We could love Jesus more fully through fasting, alms giving and deeper prayer life.
Mt 6:4-6,17-18
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in the synagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tell you, they have had their reward. But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in that secret place, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.
‘But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face, so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees all that is done in secret; and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •Jesus warns His disciples against the external observances of the law of almsgiving, prayer and fasting and missed the essence of its meaning which is our love for God.
- •We all know that if we truly love God, then our almsgiving, prayer and fasting would be different ways of showing our love, awe and praise for Him.
- •Pray to the Lord to free you from distractions, lukewarm dispositions and secular desires for reward in the good that you would do for Him.
