Reflection on the WORD

Children - Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks with great love for children. His disciples should never stop them from coming to Him.  They are particularly precious to Him because they are so innocent, vulnerable and accepting God’s Truth. These qualities must be preserved and nurtured at all costs.

Mk 10:13-16

People were bringing little children to Jesus, for him to touch them. The disciples scolded them, but when Jesus saw this he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’

Then he embraced them, laid his hands on them and gave them his blessing.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Jesus welcomes all children and told His disciples to bring the little ones to Him. Jesus has a special place in His heart for children because they are innocent, impressionable and vulnerable.
  • •How often do we see children being glared at for making noise during the Eucharistic celebrations?  While parents should be sensitive to the noise their children are making in Church, the rest should also learn to be more tolerant and caring towards children.
  • •Do we welcome children in our Churches and in our homes?  Ask the Lord for the graces we need to love all children and form them more fully in God’s ways.
