Reflection on the WORD

Faith - Response?: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed the Parable of the Sower.  The challenges of living the Word of God are many and frequent. We are easily tempted and deceived by the attractions of the secular world like glory, status, comfort that can make us self-centered persons instead of Christ-centered disciples.

Mk 4:2-9

Jesus taught the crowd many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them, ‘Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow. Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and at once sprang up, because there was no depth of earth; and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away. Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop. And some seeds fell into rich soil, grew tall and strong, and produced a good crop; the yield was thirty, sixty, even a hundredfold.’

And he said, ‘Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •We have all heard this Gospel preached to us so many times and its Truth of Salvation has become so much part of us that we can fall into the tendency of presuming that we still have the gift of faith when we die.
  • •Today’s Gospel is challenging us not to take our faith for granted.  If we do, we may be weakening our faith so gradually and imperceptibly that one day when tested, we may lose our faith as explained in the parable today.
  • •Ponder on the quality of your faith and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your daily living so that it would “produce crop a hundred fold.”
