Reflection on the WORD

Temptations: In today’s Gospel, Jesus cautioned His disciples, “Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened with debauchery, drunkenness and cares of life. . . Stay awake and pray at all times.”  “Do we find ourselves falling into temptations more frequently when we are not vigilant in our pray life?”

Lk 21:34-36

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened by debauchery and drunkenness and the cares of life, and that day will come upon you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come down on all those living on the face of the earth.

‘Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen, and to hold your ground before the Son of man.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Temptations and sins seep into our hearts silently and subtly. Thus, Jesus wants us to pray fervently and be discerningly at all times.
  • We need to be more conscious of our daily choices.  If we do not live our faith vigilantly and search for the Truth that Jesus preaches daily, our lives will be under the control of the evil influences in the world that draw us away from God.
  • Are we sincere in living our lives for God and His ways?  If we are, then there will always be deep peace and fulfillment in our lives regardless of what happens.  What is the Lord saying to us about your present life?
