Reflection on the WORD

“Second Coming of Christ”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus cautioned His disciples to heed the signs of the end of the world, and live the Good News He proclaimed.  Ponder on, “How is Jesus inviting us to live a more Christ-like life”?  “What are our main weaknesses and sinfulness that rob us of our peace in Jesus?”

Lk 21:24-28

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Great misery will descend on the land and retribution on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every gentile country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the gentiles until their time is complete.

‘There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the turmoil of the ocean and its waves; men fainting away with terror and fear at what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Both believers and non-believers of Jesus will face the final judgement in the second coming of Jesus.
  • God’s Mercy will forgive the sins of those who are repentant. In being forgiven by God, we too need to atone (i.e. “make amends” and “repair” the harm and hurt we have caused) through God’s Justice.
  • Pray that our present life is already one of “repentance and atonement” so that our love for God begins in this life and continues into the next after we die.
