Reflection on the WORD

“Passing World”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed that the Temple’s “fine stonework” will one day all be destroyed.  What lasts for all eternity is the good and love that we have shown to others out of love for Jesus, especially those who are poor and suffering.  How true is this of your daily living?

Lk 21:5-9

When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework and votive offerings, Jesus said, ‘All these things you are staring at now-the time will come when not a single stone will be left on another; everything will be destroyed.’

And they put to him this question, ‘Master,’ they said, ‘when will this happen, then, and what sign will there be that it is about to take place?’ But he said, ‘Take care not to be deceived, because many will come using my name and saying, “I am the one” and “The time is near at hand.” Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified, for this is something that must happen first, but the end will not come at once.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel Jesus foretold His own death; He was referring to His death, but the crowd thought that He was referring to the Temple of Jerusalem.
  • Out of love for us, Christ was willing to die for us that we might gain eternal life.
  • How often do we misinterpret the meaning of God’s Word because we are too prejudiced and preoccupied with living in our narrow ways? How is God challenging us to be more open to Truth of His Word?
