Reflection on the WORD

“Generosity”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus praises the poverty-stricken widow for putting in two small coins”. She “has put in all she had to live on.”  Whereas, the rich have put in their “surplus”; their loose change.  The more grateful we are, the more generous we should become.  How much of your blessings have you shared with others?

Lk 21:1-4

Jesus looked up, he saw rich people putting their offerings into the treasury; and he noticed a poverty-stricken widow putting in two small coins, and he said, ‘I tell you truly, this poor widow has put in more than any of them; for these have all put in money they could spare, but she in her poverty has put in all she had to live on.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The widow in the passage above is an extremely powerful representation of God’s Love and Compassion for those in need.
  • She had so little, but she gave everything. Her total generosity was an expression of how much we too are capable of giving and sharing of ourselves with others; more so when we have much excess for our needs.
  • How is God’s Spirit challenging us to be more concerned and caring to those people who are poor and in need?
