Lord, help me to grow in my faith and to share it with others
6th Week in Easter : Saturday, 16th May 2026
Acts 18:23-28; Ps 46 (47):2-3, 8-10; Jn 16:23-28 (Ps Wk II)
A grandmother, living behind an iron curtain country while writing letters to her grandson in the United States, invariably added a few references to the Bible. When her grandson first noticed the references, he thought they might contain a secret message. Later, he discovered that it was merely his grandmother’s way of getting the communist censor to look up the passages and read them. Maybe one of the passages would touch his heart, she thought. Like Apollos, limited in some ways, it didn’t keep her from sharing the Good News with others.
Sometimes Catholics are reluctant to talk about their faith. They are afraid to appear as pious or fanatical. Of course, one can go to the extremes, but we ought to recognise that, in discussing our faith, we can grow in our own understanding. Rather than always talking about sports and politics, we need to tell each other what faith means to us.
We also need to pray for better enlightenment. Jesus assures us that whatever we ask the Father in His name, He will give us. This kind of prayer is not exhausted by requests for good health or other benefits. It should also include petitions for a better understanding and love of the faith. In this life we will never comprehend the mysteries of faith. We are called to use every suitable means to grow in our faith.
PRAYER: Lord, I want to grow in my faith and to share it with others.
