SS NEREUS AND ACHILLEUS, Martyrs, ST PANCRAS, Martyr, pray for us
6th Week in Easter : Tuesday, 12th May 2026
Acts 16:22-34; Ps 137 (138):1-3, 7-8; Jn 16:5-11 (Ps Wk II)
Jesus tells His disciples that He is going to the One Who has sent Him. We know He meant that He is going back to the Father. The disciples are sad at heart because they realise that Jesus is leaving them, but they don’t know where to, and no one has the courage to ask Him.
Jesus addresses their feelings by telling them what will happen after He leaves them. He will send them the Spirit of God, Who will speak the truth within them, and it will deepen their conviction and their love for Jesus.
Paul and Silas were arrested and flogged. They were brave and without despair for they were still praying and singing God’s praises while in the inner dungeon. And miraculously, the prison doors opened and their chains unclasped from their feet and hands. This wonderful incident transformed the gaoler and his family! The spirit and fervour of Paul and Silas were amazing, because the Spirit was with them as Jesus had promised.
Since by nature, spirits are not bound by time or space, we, the disciples of Jesus, could look forward to a new world ahead where the Triune God is with us always, until the end of time!
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, You know how I feel. Help me to pray to the Spirit.
