ST ATHANASIUS, Bishop & Doctor, pray for us

4th Week in Easter : Saturday, 2nd May 2026

Acts 13:44-52; Ps 97 (98):1-4; Jn 14:7-14 (Ps Wk IV)

There is an old saying: when one door closes, another opens. Paul had done his best to proclaim the risen Christ to his fellow Jews. Some were receptive, others were not. Rather than fume and rage, Paul merely changed direction and focused on the Gentiles. Many of them were overjoyed that they were being included in God’s plan of salvation.

Jesus had given His followers the task of proclaiming the message to the ends of the earth, and that is our mission also.

Jesus told the Apostles that if they had seen and known him, then they had seen and known the Father. Obviously, He was not speaking about physical resemblance, but about light and life. Those encountering Jesus were given insight into the nature of God: God is light and God is love. In God there is no darkness whatsoever. When we dwell deeply in the Spirit that Jesus sends to us, God shines through us. God increases and we decrease, and we reveal God to others.

And at the end of this passage from John, Jesus makes a stunning promise: those who do so will be able to do even greater things than He did. But we must first make that plunge into the depths of the Spirit.

PRAYER:  Lord, may my thoughts, words, and deeds reveal You to others.
