Is Jesus my Lord and my God? Do I follow Him even when it is difficult?

4th WEEK OF LENT (A) : Friday 20th March 2026

Wis 2:1, 12-22; Ps 33 (34):16, 18, 19-21, 23;
Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30 (Ps Wk IV)

The passage from Wisdom is referring to the way in which the ungodly think. They want to get rid of those who live differently, who live as God would have them live, who condemn the way that the ungodly live. The ungodly would test those who follow God to see whether God would save them. They do not understand the wisdom of following the ways of the Lord.

This is still true today as we reflect on what is happening around the world. Those who follow God’s ways know that God is with them no matter the circumstances. Do I continue to trust in God even when I’m maligned for my faith?

During the Festival of the Booths Jesus had gone alone into Jerusalem. Jesus went into the Temple to teach. The people were amazed at his knowledge and many wondered if he might be the Messiah. Others recognised where Jesus came from, so they doubted that he could be the Messiah as the Messiah’s origins were thought to be hidden. The more that Jesus taught, the more divided the people became as some believed in what he taught while others were angered by it.

Where do we stand – is Jesus the Messiah or is he not? Who do I say Jesus is? Is Jesus my Lord and my God? Do I follow Him even when it is difficult?

PRAYER:  O Father, help me to be a true follower of Jesus.
