SS TIMOTHY and TITUS, Bishops, pray for us
3rd Week in Ordinary Time (II) : Monday 26th January 2026
2 Tim 1:1-8; Ps 95 (96):1-3, 7-8, 10; Lk 10:1-9 (Ps Wk III)
For today’s memorial of the Bishops, Ss Timothy and Titus, we are invited to reflect on the calling of the seventy-two disciples to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of God. They are compared to the few labourers for a rich harvest and required to take on an attitude of radical trust in God’s providence – carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. This is also a difficult and dangerous undertaking – they were sent out like lambs among wolves. But there’s consolation, this mission seeks to share the peace and healing from God, that is, the Good News promised to all of us.
We too are called to such a similar mission. In a world that fosters digital dependence through AI, how can we turn more and more to the Lord to give us what we need to fulfil this mission? Here, in Paul’s tender letter to Timothy, we are provided some insight. He reminds Timothy that he was given a Spirit of power, love, and self-control. Like Timothy, we have been given these gifts through baptism. We too can bear all difficulties on this path, fully reliant on God’s power – the One who saved us and called us to holiness.
PRAYER: O God, fan into a flame the gift that You have given me
when You laid Your hands on me.
