How have I been faithful to God in return? Have I also kept my promises to God?”

4th Sunday of Advent (A) : Wednesday 24th December 2025

2 Sam 7:1-5, 8-12, 14, 16; Ps 88 (89):2-5, 27, 29; Lk 1:67-79 (Ps Wk IV)

Today is Christmas Eve. The readings consist of The Divine Word from the Lord to King David, The Prayer of the Psalmist, and The Prophecy of Zechariah.

David, living in ‘’a house of cedar’’, desired to build God ‘’a house (building) to dwell in’’ (at that time, the ark of God was dwelling in a tent). However, God responded by saying to David, I ‘’will make you a House (dynasty) … your House and your sovereignty will always stand secure before Me and your throne be established for ever’’ (vv 11, 14). The psalmist continues this given Divine Word by underlining the ‘’covenant’’ God has made with David, and has God saying, ‘’I will establish your (David’s) dynasty forever and set up your throne through all ages … for him My covenant shall endure’’ (vv 4, 28).

Zechariah (the father of John the Baptist) prophesied about the ‘’Most High’’ and spoke about ‘’the rising Sun’’ Who will ‘’visit … give light to those who live in darkness and the shadow of death’’ and Who ‘’will guide our feet into the way of peace’’ (vv 76, 78-79). On Christmas Day, two thousand years ago, the Word given by God to King David, The Prayer of the Psalmist, and The Prophecy of Zechariah, converged and became incarnated in the baby Jesus.

PRAYER: Let us, O Lord, ever serve You in holiness, day by day.
