The Holy Guardian Angels, pray for us
26th Week in Ordinary Time : Thursday 2nd October 2025
Ex 23:20-23; Ps 90 (91):1-6, 10-11;
Mt 18:1-5, 10 (Ps Prop)
In the holy guardian angels, we remember and celebrate God’s tender and loving care for us. In the dangerous migration of the Israelites out of bondage from Egypt, God says, “My angel will go before you.” Furthermore, God asks that they give this angel reverence and listen to all that he has to say. God’s providence is not distant. For God not only accompanies the Israelites, God also journeys with them through these heavenly messengers.
The Psalm echoes this divine protection, “The Lord has commanded His angels to keep you in all your ways.” How comforting to know that in life’s dangers and uncertainties, we are never alone! Our angels shield us, not from every hardship, but from the evil that seeks to separate us from God.
Jesus reveals the humility required to receive such care, “Unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Children trust instinctively – so must we. To evoke trust and closeness with angels is not to seek spectacles—it is to live in childlike faith. It is to rest in the assurance the angels are not distant— they are deeply invested in our journey toward holiness. Our angels serve the “little ones,” those who rely not on their own strength but on God’s love. We have to become small enough to be lifted.
PRAYER I thank you, my God, for my guardian angel; let me heed his guidance to embrace child-like trust in You to lead me safely in my journey.
