Jesus, thank you for giving of Yourself so completely. Help me to give the best of myself
THE MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST : Sunday 22nd June 2025
Gen 14:18-20; Ps 109 (110):1-4; 1 Cor
11:23-26; Lk 9:11-17 (Ps Proper)
Have you ever felt that what you have is not good enough? This Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ will rectify our distorted regard of ourselves. Luke’s Gospel presents to us a scenario of a crowd of over 5,000 people and the question arises – how can the disciples feed them with only five loaves and two fish— these are so inadequate.
Yet when this gift is given to Jesus, it is enough to feed thousands. When we surrender our hidden abilities to Jesus, He uses this offering to satisfy the needs of people around us. For Jesus, our small sincere contribution is enough! Jesus waits for us to give of ourselves no matter how inadequate we may feel. In Jesus, the magnification of God’s glory is possible in littleness.
Jesus exemplifies such giving of Himself. The first letter to the Corinthians (approx. 54 A.D.) is the earliest record we have of the Last Supper. Jesus gives the disciples His body and His blood—His whole self without reserve (v23-27). This sacrifice of the Last Supper relates intimately to Jesus’ total self-giving on the cross. Jesus gives all to the Father, who accepts and magnifies His offering. As a result, we, and thousands of others, who eat His body, are nourished and receive eternal life. At each Mass, this sacrifice is made present again. In the broken pieces and littleness of bread, we enter into this magnanimous mystery.
Jesus, thank you for giving of Yourself so completely. Help me to give the best of myself today.
