God is always in control

1st Week in Ordinary Time : Tuesday 12th January 2021

Heb. 2:5-12; Ps. 8:2,5,6-7,8-9;
Mk. 1:21-28 (Ps Wk I)

Jesus has already experienced any sort of struggle or suffering that we face. He was the ‘pioneer’ in faith, meaning that he went before us to clear a path. He took on humanity with all its burdens and limitations, and he even experienced death — all for our sakes. He is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters. Do we look upon Jesus as our brother?  He is not distant and beyond our reach, nor is he incapable of understanding our struggle and having compassion for us.

The demons knew exactly who Jesus was and what his arrival meant for them. Their days were numbered, and their power at an end. They were afraid and begged to be left alone, but Jesus expelled them from their unfortunate victim. Jesus made it very clear that the world was under new management and that God was taking total control. The reign of God was near.

People were amazed that the words of Jesus were too powerful. Sometimes we have doubts because the world continues in its negative, scary, and sinful ways. But the reign of God is a process; it takes time, and each of us is called to contribute our share to the struggle. But remember — the words of Jesus stand behind and beside us.

Lord, may I labour each day in Your kingdom.
