Our Lady of Mount Carmel

15th Week in Ordinary Time: Tuesday 16th July 2019

Ex. 2:1-15; Ps. 69(68):3,14,30-31,33-34;
Mt. 11:20-24 (Ps Wk III)

The people of Jesus’ time had no excuse for not joining his movement. He had given enough evidences to show that the way shown by him was the best for the future of humanity. If many did not accept his message it was not because the path indicated by him was not convincing, but because the people were short sighted and were not willing to sacrifice the immediate gains for the sake of long-term goals. Therefore they will reap the fruits of their inaction. That will be their judgement.

Are we not in a similar situation today? We have been warned of the ecological crisis around us, but few of us are bothered. Sometimes we are more bothered with our devotion and rituals than with the catastrophe overtaking us. Perhaps we can reflect in silence and prayer the harm we are bringing on ourselves by our carelessness and indifference. Our faith life is in how we take care of all forms of life around us, in the nurturing of God’s creation, and all forms of human life. Love is still the only commandment on which we will all be judged!

LORD, be with us as we struggle to make Your Kingdom come!
