St Gregory the Great, pope, doctor of the Church
Luke 22:24-27
|
An argument began between the apostles about who should be reckoned the greatest; but Jesus said to them, ‘Among the gentiles it is the kings who lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are given the title Benefactor. With you this must not happen.
No; the greatest among you must behave as if he were the youngest, the leader as if he were the one who serves. For who is the greater: the one at table or the one who serves? The one at table, surely? Yet here am I among you as one who serves!’

TODAY'S
POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or
meanings caught your attention?
|
- In this passage, Jesus points out the meaning of what it takes to be a follower of His, i.e. to be in the service of mankind for the glory of God .
- Jesus' whole life was one of serving others. He counseled, cured the sick and associated with the outcast, poor and needy of society. His love and compassion included those who persecuted Him .
- We too are challenged to follow Jesus' way of life and show more concern to those around us who are in need. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to guide and give us the graces we need to live a more Christ-like life daily .
