Lent Wk 3rd: Wednesday,  Wednesday, 7th March,2018  (Mt 5:17-19)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

God’s Love: In today’s Gospel, Jesus asserted that He has come to fulfil the Laws or the Prophets; not to abolish them.  Jesus is the embodiment of God’s Fullness of Love and Compassion to all peoples.  As His disciples we are called to be Christ-like in our love and compassion for others.  Pray for the graces to be more like Christ daily.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear from the Law until all its purpose is achieved.

‘Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.’

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •The Prophets and the Law are part of the salvation history of the Jewish people.

  • •However, with time, the Jews rejected the prophets and their religious leaders distorted the Law. So Jesus became man to set the Laws right and fulfilled it through His death and resurrection.

  • •In what ways have we distorted our Christian Faith and the Moral Teachings of our Church which mirror the Good News that Jesus preached and taught? Is our pride, self-centeredness and self-glory the cause of such distortion?
