Christmas Time,  Thursday, 4th January,2018  (Jn 1:35-42)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

“Following Jesus”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus invited the Andrew to follow Him.  Andrew in turn having been inspired by Jesus asked Peter, his brother to also follow Jesus.  Ponder on your life and ask yourself, “Is my relationship with Jesus personal? Like Andrew, do I have the desire to inspire others to know Jesus more personally?”

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

John stood there with two of his disciples, Jesus went past, and John looked towards him and said, ‘Look, there is the lamb of God.’ And the two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.

Jesus turned round, saw them following and said, ‘What do you want?’ They answered, ‘Rabbi’ - which means Teacher - ‘where do you live?’ He replied, ‘Come and see’; so they went and saw where he lived, and stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

One of these two who became followers of Jesus after hearing what John had said was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and say to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ - which means the Christ - and he took Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon son of John; you are to be called Cephas’ - which means Rock.

TODAY'S POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •In today’s Gospel John, touched by the Holy Spirit, recognizes Jesus as the Messiah and immediately announces Him to the crowd as the “Lamb of God.”

  • •One of the most important questions of life is, "What is the true meaning of life?”  Jesus is the answer and the Truth for He offers eternal life; the Good News of Salvation.

  • •Do I seek this Truth of Christ daily? Jesus invites me to “Come and See;” to discover how you can develop a personal relationship with Him, and renew our vocation as His disciple daily.  How are you living this out?
