Most Holy Name of Jesus,  Wednesday, 3rd January,2018  (Lk 2:21-24)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

“Consecration to God”: In today’s Gospel, the child Jesus is being consecrated in the Temple, as the Law of Moses prescribed.  Ponder and pray for the Holy Spirit to enlighten you to “consecrate” yourself, your family, your work to God, so that God will be able to bless you and empower you to live the Gospel of Christ more fully, in God’s Love and Ways.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception.

And when the day came for them to be purified in keeping with the Law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord - observing what is written in the Law of the Lord: Every first-born male must be consecrated to the Lord - and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is prescribed in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

TODAY'S POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •John saw and testified that the Spirit of God came down and rested on Jesus during His baptism at the Jordon and that Jesus was truly the “Chosen One of God.”

  • •Jesus baptizes all who believe in Him with the Holy Spirit. We too have received the Holy Spirit, who lives within us forever.

  • •Pray to the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, for the gift of faith to know, follow and love Jesus more wholeheartedly each day.
