Advent Wk 1: Sunday,  Sunday, 3rd December,2017  (Mk 13:33-37)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

God’s Will: In today’s Gospel, Jesus not only reminded His disciples that they must live their faith vigilantly, but also live in accordance to God’s Will.  We are not only to do good, but more importantly, to be Christ-like, in the way we live.  To live in God’s Will and Ways, includes embracing the Crosses of Christ that come our way.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time will come. It is like a man travelling abroad: he has gone from his home, and left his servants in charge, each with his own work to do; and he has told the doorkeeper to stay awake.

‘So stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming, evening, midnight, cockcrow or dawn; if he comes unexpectedly, he must not find you asleep. And what I am saying to you I say to all: Stay awake!’

TODAY'S POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •The media and false prophets have always predicted about the end of the world; so much so that today, such “warnings” have little effects.

  • •Is this because we no longer believe in these “end times” or are we in a state of “denial” that such reality will not happen to us?

  • •The length of days in this world is not as important as the quality of our living. Only if we live in God’s Love and Ways can we say that we have lived in God’s Wisdom and brought Him glory.
