Ord. Wk 26th: Friday,  Friday, 6th October,2017  (Lk 10:13-16)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

Rejection of the Good News: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reprimanded the people of Chorazin and Bethsaida for rejecting the Good News of Salvation.  Likewise, let us ponder on whether, we give God our left over time, loose change and tired bodies whenever we serve God’s people?  Are we guilty of being selfish and self-centred with the use of our time and money?

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. And still, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the Judgement than for you. And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised high as heaven? You shall be flung down to hell.

‘Anyone who listens to you listens to me; anyone who rejects you rejects me, and those who reject me reject the one who sent me.’

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus pronounced judgement on the people of Chorazin and Bethsaida because they repeatedly refused to repent and change from their sinful ways even though they have heard of the Good News and witnessed Jesus’ miracles.

  • Jesus is also calling each one of us to live and walk in His Ways of Truth, Love, Justice and Compassion daily.

  • Pray for the insights and graces to know how to live in the Lord’s Ways. Speak to Him from your heart and listen attentively to His Spirit’s promptings daily to grow into exemplary Christians.
